Philosophy and Fables from the East:

Flowing with the Force

This page contains an interesting fable and philosophy from the east that shows how flowing with the force, the stream of one's life.. leads to contentment and happiness.

The chamber was dark, but a beam of pure sunlight swept down from small window set high in the wall, and shone on the board tied to the pillars...

The student and the master stood before the board. "Strike the board, my son," said the Master, "as if you were attacking it."

The student obeyed, and the board broke in two. "Which is stronger, my son," asked the Master, "your hand, or the board?"

  "The board"

"Yet it breaks when you strike it.. why?"

  The student was silent.

The master smiled softly. "The board breaks because it resists," he said. He moved into the sunbeam and the dust whirled about him...

"It is the same with life. The man who resists the path his life takes him on, is broken. He who accepts, remains. For each of us, for each person, there is a path - and he who follows his will be content and happy."

"In the face of a giant storm, the great oak collapses, but the grass only sways and comes to position. He who flows with the force.. needs no other force..."
