On Good and Evil

Philosophy and Fables from the East
On Good and Evil
This page contains an interesting fable and philosophy from the east that teaches one about good and evil..
The Master walked in the grounds of the temple with a large, long haired cat in his arms.
"The cat stalks the rat," he said, "Yet we regard the rat as evil... Yet each is not evil, but merely behaves according to his own nature."

"Then is there no evil?" asked the student. "If a man hurts me, is he not evil, O teacher? And if I then punish him, do I not thus prevent him from hurting another?"
The Master turned to look into the student's eyes. "But what if you do nothing?," he asked.
The student was puzzled, "Then he will believe he can do as he wishes."
The Master smiled...
"Perhaps." he said. "Or perhaps he will then learn that some men can receive injury and yet, return kindness."
