Self Defense Training - Part Four:

Learning to use Unarmed Combat to deal with a Hostile Situation

A section on unarmed combat is an integral part of any self defense or martial arts instruction course. We concentrated on teaching you the use of concealed weapons first because we wished to give you the maximum effectiveness in a minimum of time. The unarmed combat moves that you will learn now are from several martial arts and have been included in this self defense instruction course for times when you have to defend yourself without a weapon. Technique 6) A Defense when you are on the ground..

Being on the ground before a standing enemy in a fight is a dangerous situation. However, there are still defenses one can use.. As the attacker approaches to 'finish you off', turn your body so that your legs are facing in the direction of the attacker. Now, kick his shins again and again until you seriously injure one of them. With an injured leg, the attacker is easier to deal with..

Now look at the image below - it is a throw, and it is applied to the attacker's injured leg. It is performed by hooking one leg around your attacker's ankle, and using the other leg to press down just above the knee. This throw uses the attacker's own leg as a lever to fling the attacker to the ground.

You can then rise and deal with your attacker or flee the scene, whichever action is best suited to the situation.

Practice this technique a few times at least twice a week.
